چکیده

This paper offers a framework for contemplating both past and future research on the relationship between innovation and economic growth in a Canadian context. The discussion is presented in three parts. First, the theoretical relationship between innovation and growth is briefly summarized and augmented with a review of current empirical research on the related topics of knowledge spillovers and absorptive capacity. Second, three papers that focus on innovation in Canada are summarized, including two recent empirical studies. Finally, building on the theory presented in part one and the empirical evidence presented in part two, questions grouped into five themes are proposed as potential directions for future research. * This draft is preliminary.
